Mosque & Islamic culturecenter

Johannsen Architects participated in invited architectural competition, about changing an existing commercial red-stone building to a new Big Mosque on outer Nørrebro, – and won the competition.The building is divided into a religious section with prayer halls for men and women, library, reception, and via a “link” part that can be used for other cultural purposes, including restoration, meeting rooms, cinema, administration, housing and fitness center.  The basement is equipped for parking and engineering. The building is designed and located a minaret.  There were many challenges associated with the task that also had political attention and led to many meetings with the City of Copenhagen. The assignment also led to study trips, among other things. to Qatar.  Leif Chr. Johannsen received a recognition medal for his work.
